The Hardest Item We Remove - Done Right

Hot tubs are the most physically difficult item we remove from NYC properties. They're heavy (300-800 lbs empty), bulky, often hard-wired to a 240V circuit, plumbed-in, and contain water that's been sitting for years. Removal almost always involves cutting the acrylic shell into pieces with a Sawzall.

Most homeowners try to give them away on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist first. Buyers cancel constantly - plan on 3-5 no-shows before someone actually picks up a free tub. By the time you're ready to call a professional, you usually want it gone today, not next month.

We do same-day hot tub removal across NYC + Nassau. The crew arrives with Sawzalls, utility knives, pry bars, dollies, blankets, electrical testers, and the truck to haul everything. We drain the water (typically 200-600 gallons, gravity drain to your yard if chemical-free, or pumped out), disconnect the electrical at your panel, cap any plumbing, cut the shell into 4-8 pieces, and haul everything to a licensed C&D facility.

For in-ground hot tubs, the project is larger - we cut the shell in place, remove the pump and motor, and backfill the cavity with gravel and dirt. Restoration of the surrounding deck or patio is a separate scope (we can coordinate or refer). Most in-ground hot tub removals are paired with larger backyard renovation projects.

When You Might Need Hot Tub Removal

Common situations we handle every day across NYC + Nassau.

πŸ›

Above-Ground Tub on Backyard Deck

Most common. Acrylic shell with wood frame, sitting on a deck. We disconnect electrical at your panel, drain the water, remove the cover and steps, cut the shell into 6-8 pieces, dismantle the wood frame, and haul everything. 2-4 hours typical.

🏠

Indoor Hot Tub (Basement, Bathroom)

Trickier - cutting tools indoors require careful setup. We bring drop cloths, protective covers for floors and walls, and HEPA vacuum for cleanup. Building manager approval typically needed at co-ops and condos. Add 1-2 hours versus outdoor.

🌳

In-Ground Hot Tub or Spa

Cut the shell in place, remove pump and motor, backfill cavity with gravel and dirt. Restoration of deck/patio is separate. $1,500-$3,500 for the removal phase. Often paired with larger backyard renovation.

⚑

Hot Tub From Failed Maintenance / Frozen

Cracked from cold, leaking, or structurally compromised. We approach more carefully (no surprise water releases when cutting) but pricing is similar - sometimes slightly higher because of extra setup time and care.

What We Take

βœ“ Standard Items We Take

  • Hot tub shells (acrylic, fiberglass, composite)
  • Hot tub covers (typically 40-80 lbs, often waterlogged)
  • Hot tub steps and surrounds
  • Pump motors and heater coils (recycled as scrap metal)
  • Plumbing and PVC piping
  • Control boards and electronics
  • Wood frames (redwood, cedar, composite)
  • Foam insulation underneath the shell
  • Hot tub water (drained to yard or pumped to drain)
  • Above-ground hot tub bases and platforms
  • Inflatable hot tubs (deflated)
  • Saltwater chlorination systems

⚠️ Special Cases & Add-Ons

  • In-ground hot tubs: $1,500-$3,500 for the removal phase + restoration of deck/patio is separate (we can coordinate)
  • Permanently hard-wired electrical: We disconnect at the appliance side; full back-to-panel removal requires an electrician (or your handy GC)
  • Plumbing connections: If your tub uses an external water connection (rare), we cap the supply line; otherwise no plumbing work needed
  • Hot tub water: Drained to yard if chemical-free; otherwise pumped to a sewer drain (additional service)
  • Concrete pad underneath: Can be removed as separate service via our concrete removal

Hot Tub Removal FAQ

Common questions about NYC hot tub removal.

How much does hot tub removal cost in NYC?
Above-ground hot tubs: $375-$850. Indoor hot tubs (basement, bathroom): $575-$1,200. In-ground spas (removal phase only): $1,500-$3,500. Inflatable hot tubs: $175-$275. All fixed-price after a phone description or photos.
Can I throw a hot tub in regular trash?
No. NYC Sanitation does not accept hot tubs at curbside, even cut into pieces. They must go to a Construction & Demolition (C&D) facility. Most homeowners can't transport one themselves - hence professional removal.
How long does hot tub removal take?
2-4 hours on-site for typical above-ground tubs. Indoor tubs add 1-2 hours due to careful setup. In-ground spas are multi-day projects (1-3 days for the removal phase, plus restoration time).
Do you handle the electrical disconnect?
Yes - we disconnect the wiring from the appliance side and cap it. For full removal back to the electrical panel, you'll need an electrician (or your handy GC) for $150-$300. Most homeowners leave the wiring in place if they plan to install something else outside.
Can you remove a hot tub from a basement or upstairs bathroom?
Yes - indoor tubs are common in NYC (basement installations, rooftop deck tubs, master-bathroom soaking tubs). Indoor removals require shell cutting and add 1-2 hours to the job. Building manager approval needed for co-ops and condos.
What about the concrete pad or deck underneath?
Separate service. Concrete pads can be removed with our concrete removal service ($550-$1,200). Deck removal is a different scope. We can coordinate or refer to a deck/patio contractor.
What if my hot tub is in-ground?
We cut the shell in place, remove the pump and motor, and backfill the cavity with gravel and dirt. Cost: $1,500-$3,500 for the removal phase. Restoration of the surrounding deck/patio is separate (often $1,500-$5,000 with a contractor).
Can you remove a hot tub the same day I call?
Often yes - same-day if you call before noon. Hot tub removals require slightly more crew time than typical junk pickups, so same-day depends on truck and crew availability. Most jobs we can schedule within 24-48 hours.
